Practical moving information

Not every job needs a seven-tonne lorry and four people. Man and van is the same service scaled down: an hourly rate, a two-hour minimum, and the option to add a second pair of hands if the sofa needs it.

It suits single rooms, part-loads, student moves, a single piece of furniture, or a run to the tip — anything smaller than a full house that still needs a proper vehicle and someone who knows how to load it.

How it is charged

By the hour, from the same vehicle rate card as a full move, with a two-hour minimum on the Transit vans. Mileage is charged separately per mile. Adding crew changes the hourly rate rather than adding a flat fee on top.

Insurance is not an upgrade

Goods in Transit and Public Liability cover are included as standard, in exactly the same way as on a full house move. A smaller job does not mean smaller cover.

What is the minimum booking?
Two hours on the Small Transit and Transit LWB. Three hours on the Luton box van and the 5.5 and 7.5 tonne lorries.
Can I book a driver only, with no additional crew?
Yes, where the load allows it. Adding movers changes the hourly rate rather than adding a separate charge.
Is this suitable for a single item?
Yes. A single item, a part-load, or a full van run are all priced the same way — by the hour, plus mileage.
Is my load insured?
Yes. Goods in Transit and Public Liability cover are included as standard, regardless of the size of the job.

How much does man & van cost?

The main factors are the vehicle and crew, loading and unloading time, and the distance between your two addresses. Access and any packing or furniture work help us build the rest of the quotation.

Vehicle, crew and time
For hourly moves, the rate depends on the vehicle and number of movers. Hours are billed as worked, subject to a 2- or 3-hour minimum depending on the vehicle. Tell us what is moving so we can confirm a suitable team and allow realistic loading time.
Distance and access
A vehicle-specific per-mile charge is added. Stairs, parking and the walk from the vehicle to each front door also matter: a short local journey can still involve a long loading day. Tell us about working lifts and any loading restrictions at both addresses.
The work you need us to do
Furniture dismantling and reassembly are priced per item. Packing requirements and any additional collection or delivery stops should be agreed before the move, so the quotation reflects the whole job.

A driver-only rate is not a fully crewed price. We confirm the vehicle, crew, scope of work and VAT treatment with your quotation.

Separately priced work

  • Second-floor stairs: £20 per property. Ground and first floor are included; a working lift means no stair charge.
  • Single-bed dismantling and reassembly: £15. Other furniture has its own per-item rate.

What size removal van and crew will I need?

Property size is only a starting point. The volume of furniture and boxes, access, parking and unusually large items also affect the vehicle and crew we recommend.

The capacities and minimum bookings are from our fleet data. Property suggestions are guidance, not a guaranteed vehicle allocation.

How many movers will attend?

The rate card offers 2 movers, 3 movers, 4 movers, as well as driver-only bookings. Bedroom count does not decide the crew: tell us about the furniture, stairs and any heavy items, and confirm who will handle loading and unloading when you book.

Access can change the vehicle
Narrow roads, low entrances and restricted parking may make a smaller vehicle more practical. Share height restrictions and loading rules before a vehicle is allocated.
Volume matters more than bedrooms
Include the loft, shed and garden furniture in your inventory. A lightly furnished three-bedroom house can have less to move than a full two-bedroom flat.
Large items and longer journeys need a plan
Flag pianos, heavy furniture and oversized pieces early. If the load may need more than one vehicle or journey, discuss that before booking, especially when the destination is a long way away.

A smaller job than a full house move, but the same basics: confirm the load and access before booking, protect what's being carried, and unload to the rooms you want.

What changes from one move to the next?

Two moves of the same property size can run very differently. These are the things that most often change the vehicle, the crew or the time — and the details worth telling us when you enquire.

  • A small load that still needs two people

    A single heavy item — a sofa, a wardrobe — can need two people even when the rest of the job is light. Flagging it means the right crew size is booked, not assumed from the item count.

  • Multiple short-notice stops in one job

    Several collection or drop-off points can usually be combined into one booking — tell us all of them up front so the route and timing are realistic.

  • A student move or single-item delivery on a tight window

    Man and van jobs are often booked closer to the date than a full house move — the same rate card applies, just confirm the time window when you book.

  • Restricted parking at either end

    A smaller job doesn't mean a shorter carry — if the van can't get close, tell us, since it affects timing more than the size of the load does.
