Folkestone runs on the same rate card as our head office towns for house removals — vehicle and crew by the hour, mileage on top, and a coordinator who stays on the job from quote to completion.

Most of what we do is this: getting a household from one address to another without the day falling apart. It runs on unglamorous things — the right size of vehicle, enough people on it, and someone whose job it is to answer the phone when the completion time slips.

Every move includes Goods in Transit and Public Liability cover as standard, packing materials, and a dedicated coordinator from the quote through to the last box.

AFS Removals handles house removals of every size across the whole of the UK, from a single room to a full family home — local moves and long-distance moves are priced from the same published rate card, not a separate long-haul rate nobody can see in advance.

The vehicle and crew we recommend are matched to what you are actually moving, not just a bedroom count, so the price reflects the real job rather than a generic package built around a guess.

Every rate we can publish is published: hourly charges by vehicle and crew, per-mile distance charges, stair charges and per-item furniture prices are all online before you speak to anyone.

Packing, furniture dismantling and reassembly are available as separate services for anyone who wants the whole job handled, priced on their own so you are never paying for something you did not ask for.

What the day looks like

The crew arrives, walks the property with you, and protects floors and doorways before anything moves. Furniture that needs to come apart comes apart. Everything is blanket-wrapped and loaded in an order that matches how you want it unloaded.

At the other end, boxes go to the room you labelled them for, beds go back together, and nothing leaves until you have walked the house.

Local or long distance

A cross-town move and a Manchester-to-Cornwall move are the same job with different mileage. Both are priced from the same rate card — an hourly rate set by vehicle and crew size, plus a per-mile charge — so a long move does not attract a different kind of pricing, just more miles.

Access and stairs in Folkestone

Ground and first floor are included in the price of house removals. Above that, stairs carry a flat charge per floor at each property, published in full on the quote page. If there is a working lift, there is no stair charge.

Coverage details for house removals in Folkestone

We list Folkestone under the CT postcode area. Give us both full addresses when you ask for a quote for house removals — the postcode is how we file it, not how we price it.

Folkestone also shows real local demand for man & van — worth a look if house removals isn't the only thing on your list.

In Kent, we also quote house removals in Sittingbourne, Tonbridge, Maidstone, Sevenoaks, and 2 other places.

Of the 17 places we list in Kent, Folkestone is the 10th most asked about in our own search data — which is how we decided whether it gets a page of its own like this one.

Distance and mileage for Folkestone

Folkestone is roughly 66 miles from our London office, the closer of our two — that distance is what the per-mile part of a house removals quote is built from, on top of the hourly vehicle and crew rate.

What actually changes a plan

The details that change a plan for house removals are the same wherever the job is: access at both addresses, floor count, whether there's a working lift, and the distance from the legal stopping point to the door. Those are quote inputs we ask for — not assumptions we make about Folkestone because of its postcode or its tier on our own site.

How much does house removals cost in Folkestone?

The main factors are the vehicle and crew, loading and unloading time, and the distance between your two addresses. Access and any packing or furniture work help us build the rest of the quotation.

Vehicle, crew and time
For hourly moves, the rate depends on the vehicle and number of movers. Hours are billed as worked, subject to a 2- or 3-hour minimum depending on the vehicle. Tell us what is moving so we can confirm a suitable team and allow realistic loading time.
Distance and access
A vehicle-specific per-mile charge is added. Stairs, parking and the walk from the vehicle to each front door also matter: a short local journey can still involve a long loading day. Tell us about working lifts and any loading restrictions at both addresses.
The work you need us to do
Furniture dismantling and reassembly are priced per item. Packing requirements and any additional collection or delivery stops should be agreed before the move, so the quotation reflects the whole job.

A driver-only rate is not a fully crewed price. We confirm the vehicle, crew, scope of work and VAT treatment with your quotation.

Published prices to help you plan

Packing and moving can be booked together at a fixed package price. These figures come from our current rate card.

2-bedroom Pack & Move
£1,850
3-bedroom Pack & Move
£2,450

Confirm your inventory, access and the work included before booking. Prices for other property sizes are available on request.

Separately priced work

  • Second-floor stairs: £20 per property. Ground and first floor are included; a working lift means no stair charge.
  • Single-bed dismantling and reassembly: £15. Other furniture has its own per-item rate.

What size removal van and crew will I need?

Property size is only a starting point. The volume of furniture and boxes, access, parking and unusually large items also affect the vehicle and crew we recommend.

A starting point for your inventory

The capacities and minimum bookings are from our fleet data. Property suggestions are guidance, not a guaranteed vehicle allocation.

How many movers will attend?

The rate card offers 2 movers, 3 movers, 4 movers, as well as driver-only bookings. Bedroom count does not decide the crew: tell us about the furniture, stairs and any heavy items, and confirm who will handle loading and unloading when you book.

Access can change the vehicle
Narrow roads, low entrances and restricted parking may make a smaller vehicle more practical. Share height restrictions and loading rules before a vehicle is allocated.
Volume matters more than bedrooms
Include the loft, shed and garden furniture in your inventory. A lightly furnished three-bedroom house can have less to move than a full two-bedroom flat.
Large items and longer journeys need a plan
Flag pianos, heavy furniture and oversized pieces early. If the load may need more than one vehicle or journey, discuss that before booking, especially when the destination is a long way away.

AFS crew carrying furniture out to the van on moving day

What happens on moving day?

The crew arrives, walks the property with you, protects floors and doorways, dismantles what needs dismantling, and loads in the order the load will come off. At the other end, boxes go to the rooms you labelled them for and nothing leaves until you have walked the property.

  1. 1

    Arrival and walkthrough

The crew checks every room with you to confirm what's moving and what's staying, and flags anything needing special handling — beds, pianos, anything fragile.

  2. 2

    Protection goes down

Floors, doorways and door frames are protected before a single item moves, and furniture is blanket-wrapped. That protection is part of the standard job, not billed separately.

  3. 3

    Dismantling

Anything booked for dismantling comes apart — usually beds and larger wardrobes, which often will not leave a room assembled.

  4. 4

    Loading

The van is loaded in the order you want it unloaded — heavier, sturdier items first, fragile pieces last — rather than however things come to hand.

  5. 5

    Travel

The same crew that loaded the van travels with it and unloads it — nobody new takes over partway through. On a long move that is the whole day; on a local one it may be twenty minutes.

  6. 6

    Unloading by room

Boxes and furniture go to the room you labelled them for, not into whichever hallway is nearest the door. That one habit saves more time at the far end than anything else you can do.

  7. 7

    Reassembly

Anything we took apart goes back together, where that was booked.

  8. 8

    Final walkthrough

Nothing leaves until you have walked the property and confirmed furniture is where you want it.

What is included with house removals in Folkestone?

Cover, materials and a named coordinator come as standard on every move. Packing and furniture dismantling are separate services, priced separately — so you are not paying for them if you do not need them.

Included as standard

  • Goods in Transit coverIncluded as standard on every move, not sold as an optional extra.
  • Public Liability coverIn place for every job, domestic and commercial alike.
  • Packing materialsBubble wrap, shrink wrap, wardrobe cartons and furniture blankets, supplied as part of the job.
  • A dedicated move coordinatorOne named point of contact from the quote through to unloading.

Added when you need it

What changes from one move to the next?

Two moves of the same property size can run very differently. These are the things that most often change the vehicle, the crew or the time — and the details worth telling us when you enquire.

  • Restricted parking at one end

If the vehicle cannot get near the door, the carry gets longer and loading takes more time. Tell us the distance from the nearest legal stopping point to the front door — it changes the estimate more reliably than the number of bedrooms does.

  • A flat above the first floor

Ground and first floor are included. Above that a published per-floor charge applies at each property. A working lift removes the stair charge entirely, so it is worth confirming the lift is in service on the day.

  • Completion time not yet confirmed

Keys often arrive later than anyone plans for. We book the crew for the day rather than an exact hour, and the coordinator stays reachable while you wait for the call.

  • Large furniture that will not fit through the door

Wardrobes and bed frames frequently have to come apart before they leave the room. Flagging these in advance means the crew arrives with the right tools and the time is already in the estimate.

  • A long-distance move

The same rate card applies — hourly rate by vehicle and crew, plus a per-mile charge. What changes is planning: departure time, the route, and when the load can realistically be unloaded at the other end.

  • More volume than the property size suggests

A heavily furnished two-bedroom house can hold more than a sparse three-bedroom one. Garages, lofts and sheds are what usually get forgotten. An accurate inventory is what stops a vehicle arriving too small.

These are planning examples, not records of particular jobs.

Local or long distance?

Both are priced from the same rate card for house removals — an hourly rate set by vehicle and crew size, plus a per-mile charge. A long job does not attract a different kind of pricing, just more miles on the same card.

Local

Distance is barely a factor. What decides the day is volume, access at both ends and how long loading and unloading realistically take.

Long distance

The same fundamentals, with mileage and timing added. Departure time and when the job can realistically finish at the far end matter more, particularly on a same-day completion.

How do I get a price?

Four steps, and the third one is a real number rather than a placeholder while someone calls you back.

  1. 1

    Tell us about your move

Both addresses, your likely date, roughly what is moving, and anything that affects access — stairs, lifts, parking, a long carry.

  2. 2

We match a vehicle and crew

Sized to the volume and the access, not just the number of bedrooms — see how that works on the van and crew guide above.

  3. 3

You get a price from the published rate card

Built from the hourly rate, the crew, and the distance between the two addresses — the same rate card that is published on this site.

  4. 4

    Your coordinator confirms the details

One named person carries the job from the quote through to the last box, and is who you call if anything changes.

How should I prepare for moving day?

The preparation that saves the most time on the day is confirming access at both addresses, labelling boxes by destination room, flagging furniture that needs dismantling, and keeping documents, medication and valuables with you rather than on the van.

2–4 weeks before

  • Confirm your likely moving date, even if completion is not fixed yet.
  • Tell us about both addresses — stairs, lifts, parking and how far the van can get from the door.
  • Check whether either address needs a parking permit or a bay suspension.
  • List the large or awkward items: wardrobes, pianos, garden equipment, anything in a loft.
  • Decide whether you want packing, and whether that is the whole property or fragile items only.
  • Book a house clearance for anything that is not coming with you.

1 week before

  • Finish packing everything you will not need in the final week.
  • Label every box with the room it is going to at the new address, not the room it came from.
  • Set aside anything you would rather move yourself — documents, jewellery, small valuables.
  • Confirm which furniture needs dismantling so the crew arrives prepared.
  • Tell your coordinator about any change to the date or the access.
  • Arrange for any appliance that needs disconnecting to be dealt with by the appropriate trade.

24–48 hours before

  • Pack an essentials box: kettle, mugs, chargers, toilet roll, a change of clothes.
  • Keep medication, passports and paperwork with you rather than on the van.
  • Empty and defrost the freezer if it is coming with you.
  • Charge your phone and make sure your coordinator has the number you will actually answer.
  • Put anything that is not moving in one clearly marked place.

On the morning

  • Keep keys, documents and valuables with you.
  • Walk the crew round and point out anything fragile or not moving.
  • Say where the van can park and where the nearest access point is.
  • Keep children and pets somewhere safe and out of the carry route.
  • Make sure the essentials box is the last thing loaded or travels with you.

At the new address

  • Tell the crew what each room is called so labelled boxes land correctly.
  • Check furniture placement before the crew leaves — moving a wardrobe later is harder alone.
  • Confirm anything booked for reassembly has been put back together.
  • Walk the property with the crew before they go.

Packing takes longer than almost anyone expects.

Moving tips

House Removals in Folkestone: common questions

How is a house move priced?
By vehicle size and crew size at an hourly rate, plus a per-mile distance charge. There is a two-hour minimum on our smaller vans and a three-hour minimum on the Luton, 5.5 tonne and 7.5 tonne vehicles. Full-property packing and moving is also available at a fixed price by bedroom count. Access above the first floor and furniture dismantling are charged separately at published rates, so the hourly rate stays the same whether or not you need them.
What is included in a house move?
Goods in Transit and Public Liability cover, packing materials, and a named move coordinator who handles your job from the quote through to the last box. The crew protects floors and doorways before anything moves, blanket-wraps furniture, and unloads boxes into the rooms you have labelled them for. Packing, furniture dismantling and specialist handling are separate services with their own published prices, so you are not paying for them if you do not need them.
How far in advance should I book?
As soon as you have a likely date, even if completion is not confirmed. Availability varies by date and by vehicle — Fridays and month-ends go first — so an early conversation gives you more choice of slot. If your date is still uncertain, tell us the window you are working to and we will talk through what is realistic. Phone lines are open seven days a week, 8:00am to 10:30pm.
Do I need to pack everything myself?
No. You can pack everything yourself, have us pack the whole property, or have us pack only the fragile items and do the rest yourself. Packing materials are included either way. If you are packing yourself, the single most useful thing you can do is label each box with the room it is going to at the new address rather than the room it came from — that is what makes room-by-room unloading work at the other end.
Can you dismantle and rebuild furniture?
Yes. Dismantling and reassembly is charged per item at a published rate rather than folded into the hourly rate, starting at £15 for a single bed. Beds and larger wardrobes frequently have to come apart before they will leave a room at all, so it is worth flagging them when you enquire — that way the crew arrives with the right tools and the time is already built into the estimate.
Do you charge for stairs?
Ground and first floor are included at no extra cost. Above that there is a flat charge per floor: £20 for the second, £40 for the third, £60 for the fourth, and £20 per floor beyond that. The charge applies at each property, so a third-floor flat to a second-floor flat carries both. A working lift means no stair charge at all — worth confirming the lift is in service on the day.
Is insurance included?
Yes. Goods in Transit and Public Liability cover are included as standard on every move — they are not an optional extra and there is nothing to add at checkout. Cover applies to the goods we are carrying while they are in our care.
Can you handle a long-distance move?
Yes, anywhere in the UK, and we also run household moves between the UK and nine European countries. A long move is priced from exactly the same rate card as a local one — the hourly rate set by vehicle and crew, plus the per-mile charge — so distance adds miles rather than a different kind of pricing. What changes is the planning: departure time, the route, and when the load can realistically be unloaded at the far end.
What should I do before the movers arrive?
Finish packing anything you are packing yourself and label the boxes by destination room. Keep keys, documents, medication and valuables with you rather than loading them onto the van. Put anything that is not moving in one clearly marked place, and empty and defrost the freezer if it is coming with you. On the morning, walk the crew round and point out anything fragile, anything staying, and where the van can legally stop.
What happens if my moving date changes or completion is delayed?
Tell your coordinator as soon as you know. Delayed completions are common and the crew is booked for the day rather than an exact hour, so a key release that slips by a few hours is usually absorbed without the move falling apart. If the date itself moves, availability and any effect on the booking need to be confirmed by the team — call us as early as you can, because the sooner we know, the more options there are.
Which postcode areas are associated with Folkestone?
We list Folkestone under CT. Give us both full addresses when you ask for a quote — distance and access decide the plan, not the postcode label by itself.
